While most vacations happen without a hitch, sometimes illness or injury can happen. But with proper insurance coverage, getting the necessary care becomes easier when the international traveler has to deal with the unexpected on his or her vacation. Now, as a result of an initiative created by the government of Panama, foreign visitors to Panama who arrive through Tocumen International Airport will receive free emergency medical insurance that will cover them through the first 30 days of their visit. So rest assured, Panama has you covered.
As announced by Panama’s Tourism Authority, ATP, guests will receive a user card, along with a brochure about the program, which can be presented in case of an emergency at a health center. The policy covers hospitalization and medical expenses for accidental injuries or for diseases contracted in Panama, transfer by land or aerial ambulance, hotel expenses (up to 10 days) and non-hospitable pharmaceutical expenses, transfer of a body to the country of origin in case of death, dental emergency expenses, administrative legal assistance, and lost or stolen documents. Exclusions include injuries caused by negligence, anything related to alcohol and drugs, and any injury related with participation in extreme sports.
