Couples Ocho Rios is currently closed and will reopen on March 15th, 2009 after a multi-million dollar renovation. This resort will be renamed Couples Tower Isle. Before the trip I did alot of homework, reading tons of reports, just like this one, and determined that for every good report, I found just as many bad reports. So I narrowed my search based on the criteria I was looking for, something for adults not families, a bit away from the beaten path, and with a lot of ammenities. Couples Ocho Rios, seemed to fit the bill. We booked a Delux Oceanfront room. We wee on the third floor of the main building, with an unobstructed view of the private beach, island and bay. The had a queen size bed, private bath, safe, and coffee service. The next grade up (a superior ocean view also included a stocked refrigerator, and several other niceties), since we didn't come here to sit in our room and drink, I opted for the delux room. The ride from the airport is like a 2 hour Mr.Toads ride at Disneyland, but we enjoyed the drivers comentary about the history and locations we passed en route. We were met with cold towels, a reggea band, and a rum punch. Check in was painless and quick. Since we were between regular meals we sampled the jerked pork and fries at the almost 24 hour beach fast food hut. It was made to order and really quite good. In addition there are 4 restaurants each with its own dress code that range from collered shirts and shoes to bathing suits and beach shoes. We tried all of the restaurants and found them to be superb. A note on what I mean by superb. Good food and service --- with an attitude. All of the tours and ammenities were included, except for spa services and tours not advertised in the brochure. There was a tour specialist on hand for that. All in all they won us over and we are confirmed cruise takers. I give this place high marks in all areas. Can't wait to book again next year. Although it was our first like this so we can not compare it to others. We had a beautiful ocean view room which gave us beautiful sunrises to start each day. The Resort was gorgeous the people fantastic. Seven days was not enough, we hated to leave we had enjoyed everything so much. The dunns river climb was awsome if not a bit intimidating. The cool jazz catamaran was fabulous, we tried to go on this twice but the winds were to high on the second attempt. Private island was very nice, we are now considering only resorts with option. All in all you cant go wrong with this vacation, we will go back now doubt. If there would be a small complaint it would be that the drinks could be a little stronger. I am sure we could have asked for doubles each time but we made do. Our hats are off to you all at the resort, Thanks for a wonderful vacation. You all deserve a round of aplause for your efforts. We have gone on many trips to different places since then and so far nothing has compared to ocho rios couples resort. Our honeymoon was perfect at Couples Ochos Rios. The staff is top shelf. We always felt comfortable and safe. The food, drinks and entertainment were excellent! What a total disappointment!!!!! It has changed sooo much (and not for the better). We arrived on a Friday around lunchtime. We made a reservation at their French restaurant for Saturday night (for the 4 of us) when we arrived at our reserved time we were told the the reservation was for 2 people and not 4. We explained that a mistake must have been made somewhere on their part, but were told to "step to the side so that they could seat the people that DO have reservations" we finally went to the reservations desk in the lobby to report the problem, and the woman there was very apologetic and walked us back to the restaurant and told the Matre'd that she had made the mistake...only then were we seated, and got the worst table in the house right next to the door (and the man that was so rude to us). The table wobbled every time you put your arm on it...it was awfull! There must have been at least 20 other empty tables, that remained empty the entire time we were there. Activities were listed on a board, but never announced. For example, when it said "pool volleyball at 11:00am" they came and put the net up in the pool.....that was it, never tried to get anyone involved in the activity. My husband and nephew were playing ping-pong on Sunday around noon,when the activity person came over and it was ping-pong tournament time, well the 2 of them WERE the tournament!
