Entry Requirements

Puerto Rico is considered a United States territory and does not require a passport for travel. However, All Inclusive Outlet recommends the use of a passport for US Citizens traveling to this area. A change of intinerary/destination due to unforeseen circumstances or a disruption in the airline schedule may result in travel to areas that require a passport. 

All travelers between the U.S. and the Caribbean are required to carry passports beginning January 1, 2007 as mandated by the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. We encourage you to begin the passport application process early to avoid unexpected delays. Travelers should allow a minimum of six weeks between their application submission and receipt of passport.  Passports may be expedited for an additional charge.

Visas are not required for US passport holders. Visitors are required to purchase a $10 (U.S.) Tourist Card for each member of their party before entering the immigration line. This card is payable in cash only, traveler’s checks and credit cards are not accepted.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are not required unless arriving from, or traveling through, a country with a formally declared health epidemic.  Please visit www.cdc.gov for the most current traveler's health information.

What to Wear

Light shirts and shorts are best suited for the warm year-round weather. Some restaurants may require jackets for men and dresses for ladies.  Resorts typically require a collared shirt and long pants for men and island casual for ladies when dining in the evening.

Currency and Banks

Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the U.S. and as such uses the U.S. dollar. Puerto Ricans often refer to the dollar as a “peso.” Banks are located throughout the developed regions and are open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Driving

Driving is done on the right side of the road and all vehicle laws are identical to those in the U.S.

Puerto Rico boasts a digital telephone system, high-speed Internet capabilities, cellular telephone service, radio broadcast communications and all 4 major U.S. television networks.

Electricity

The electricity in Puerto Rico follows the U.S. standard of 110 Volts/60 Hertz.

Water

The water in Puerto Rico is safe to drink.

Airports

The main airport in Puerto Rico is the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) and is located just outside of San Juan.

Pets

The importation of animals is prohibited without an Import Permit, corresponding health documents and proper notification of the Government Veterinary Officer.

Geography

The geography of Puerto Rico is a dramatic mixture of peaks, rivers, valleys and expansive beaches. History

Puerto Rico, meaning “Rich Port,” has been a coveted island since it was first inhabited in 4500 B.C. These mysterious people dominated the island until their replacement by the Taino Indians in 800 A.D. It wasn’t until Columbus’ famous 1493 voyage that European contact was made. Flourishing coffee plantations and slaves from Africa contributed to the success of this now Spanish colony. In 1898, Puerto Rico officially joined the United States as a result of the Treaty of Paris, paving the way for a blossoming tourism industry. Old forts, mid-century churches and ancient courtyards still stand as a modern testament to Puerto Rico’s history.

Cultural Experience

The most exuberant display of Puerto Rican culture is found in the Le Lo Lai Festival. This is a great way to see Puerto Rico’s history of Taino, African and Spanish influence in its finest harmony. Necessary Documents

• Original Passport
• For non-U.S. citizens, a declaration certifying a single status must be sworn before a Notary Public or other authorized personnel. This declaration must accompany the application.
• Proof of Status- If divorced, proof of Decree Absolute is required. If a Widow/Widower, the Death Certificate with a raised seal must be presented before the marriage license is granted.
• Medical certificate from a physician in Puerto Rico certifying a VDRL blood test.
• A doctor in Puerto Rico must sign the marriage license after examining the bride and groom.
• The Marriage License Bureau must authenticate all documents.

Restrictions

• The bride and groom must appear at the City Court office to purchase a marriage license.
• Those under the age of between the ages of 16 and 17 must have the consent of parents or legal guardians to marry.
• A blood test is required.
• Divorces must be finalized in the country or state granted.
• The Marriage License Bureau must authenticate all documents.

• The Judicial Center offers free ceremonies. Private or hotel ceremonies average around $150-$350 (U.S.) and can be set up by your hotel.
