Deborah V, Erie, PA Visted resort between 03/12/2011 and 03/19/2011 We had a wonderful vacation at Hidden Beach March 12-19, 2011. With two stops along the way for fellow travelers, the trip to or from the airport took 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours depending on the traffic flow. Check in was friendly and efficient. What a disappointment that our Oceanfront Jacuzzi Junior Suite did not have a balcony! At the time of booking in July 2010 two types of suites were offered and we read that, “Each of the suites also features a balcony or patio with a hammock and chairs for outdoor relaxation.” We were informed that only seven second floor suites had balconies and told that we could change rooms if something became available. Given what we read about the management of Hidden Beach, it was not surprising that we were never contacted. Preferring a high floor, we declined the offer of an Oceanfront Swim Up Junior Suite at additional cost. We were taken on a brief tour of the facility and were impressed with how beautiful, clean and well maintained Hidden Beach is. It did not take us long to discover that the staff at Hidden Beach is fabulous as well and makes each and every guest feel welcome and special. Employees throughout the resort are unfailingly efficient, polite, friendly and helpful. Our suite was fresh, attractive, comfortable and always well stocked with beverages and clean towels. It had two good size side windows looking out over the pool that did not open and four windows facing the Caribbean. The two in the middle slid open. I tied the curtains back to enlarge the view. There was never an unpleasant odor in our suite that others reported but we did smell sewage at times when walking through the grounds. During our stay I saw only one person who used the second floor balcony. A woman stood there for only a minute or two. I wondered whether these balconies were even furnished. Numerous people used the first floor patios but I never observed anyone in the water in front of the swim up suites nor did I see a single person accessing the pool via the lazy river. Kudos to the chefs! The food was the best I’ve had at an all-inclusive resort. Breakfast is buffet or a la carte. Lunch is a la carte and there is also a buffet served by the bar/pool with grilled meat, poultry and seafood. It is best to dine poolside when the food is first put out and at its freshest. Dinner is a la carte. Everyone dressed for dinner, probably a combination of chilly evening temperatures and personal choice. Hidden Beach has a nice room service menu. Service is quick and the food arrives at the correct temperature. Guests are welcome to use the facilities at El Dorado Seaside Suites and there are excellent dining options there as well. We preferred the delicious food, great service and cozy atmosphere of Hidden Beach and had all but four of our meals there. It’s a good idea to grab some beach towels and claim your spot for the day at the pool or beach before breakfast. The pool is quite small. The beach is protected by sandbags off the shoreline. The water is no deeper than calf level and water shoes are a must due to the rocky bottom. At El Dorado Seaside Suites there is a wall with signs along the seashore warning, “For Your Own Safety Do Not Go Beyond This Point”. The swimming beach is at the far end of the resort. Our wakeup call came at 5:00 AM on the 19th of March and the van returning us to the airport arrived promptly and 7:25 AM. We were sad to leave this charming Caribbean resort and return to the cold, blustery weather in northwestern Pennsylvania.
