Florence, Houston, Texas Visted resort between 04/21/2007 and 05/05/2007 I hbve stayed in some of the finest hotels in the world. Meurice in Paris, Negresco in Nice, Doge's Palace in Venice etc, etc, but I have never before encountered such overwhelming beauty and opullence as that of Riu Palace, Riveriers Maya, Mexico. It has the look of a Moorish palace. It is whatever is beyond luxuriously beautiful. We had a Junior Suite complete with cable tv, balcony, mini-frig and a stocked bar. The marble floors can be slippery if you come out of the shower. Also there is no light in the shower/bath and it is a bit dark. Ther ballcony is also not lit. There are gorgeous reflecting fountains on way to the beach. The pool is large and not croweded and there is, of course, a swim up bar. Service is prompt whether in the pool or sitting poolside. The array of food is huge and the staff are helpful and courteus. There is a poolside restaruant if you do not wish to walk back to the hotel restaurant. The crowd is very laid back and international. Many Germans, Canadians, Belgians, some S. Americans and of course Americans from all over the US. Many weddings held there. The beach which was damaged during the storm needs to be heightened at the edge. They are working on that but it is not finished. Many large palms beacchside and drink service not easy to find. This needs fixing. Desk staff all very courteous and helpful but many could use Engllish lessons. Some truly bilungual, others not quite. Evening entertainment was typical hotel evening entertainmen Worst problem is key situation. Keys do not fit locks and you must then walk to lobby and have new key made. All in all, this was the absolutely best vacation in the most beautiful hotel in my life. The small glitches are vastly outweighed by the extravagant loveliness of the hotel itself. the helpfulness of the staff, the splendid array of food and drink, the gorgeous aqua Carib ocean and the relaxed atmosphere. I have been coming to Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen for 21 years and there is absolutely no place that compares to Rui Palace. But be careful. There are 2 Riu Palaces close to one another. I visited the other - Riu Palace Mexico - and preferred Riu Palace, Riviera Maya. Great!!! Simply great!! Show Intro Only
