Overview

The Yucatán Peninsula’s Riviera Maya extends along 75 miles of the Mexican Caribbean coast from Puerto Morelos to Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve with white sand beaches, turquoise water, luxury resorts, spas, golf courses, coral reefs, cave diving, snorkeling, scuba diving, and pre-Columbian Mayan ruins.  Riviera Maya all inclusive vacations offer a little something for everyone who visits this diverse region.

Puerto Morelos is a small fishing village with an iconic lighthouse. There is a National Marine Park — part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — in the village. The village is popular with foodies, as there are several restaurants serving freshly-caught seafood.

Playa del Carmen, a town on the coast, is one of the world’s top dive destinations. The water is clear, making exploration of the underwater caves a popular activity. You can visit the nearby island of Cozumel, 45 minutes by bus or 30 minutes by high-speed ferry.

Cozumel is an island adjacent to Playa del Carmen, once used by the Mayans for their ceremonies, and currently a popular cruise ship port-of-call. Made famous by oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, international divers and snorkelers flock to Cozumel to explore the wonders of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. San Miguel is the only town on the island. You will find traditional Mayan handicrafts in the shops in there as well as many restaurants and cafes for when you need a treat and a break from touring. You can also visit Tulum, a charming village, which contains one of Mexico’s most important archaeological sites. Much of the Mayan architecture, more than 1000 years old, is intact.
Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve, outside where the town of Tulum, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The 1.3 million acres in this protected coastal area is home to 115 species of mammals, 318 species of butterflies, 375 species of birds, 1048 species of flora, 84 species of coral in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, and much more. You won’t experience a larger range of natural beauty anywhere else than what they will find here!

Shopping

The best shopping in the Riviera Maya is done in the boisterous town of Playa del Carmen. Boutique shops line the infamous strip of Quinta Avenida, showcasing local and international items. Browse through an assortment of duty-free perfumes, handmade crafts and fine jewelry while absorbing the Mexican culture. When it’s time to refuel, there are a number of restaurants that offer native and international cuisine. The mixture of duty-free stores and tasty dining makes shopping on the Quinta Avenida a thrilling experience.

Dining

Authentic Mexican cuisine and international entrees are on the menu in the Riviera Maya. Beachfront resorts offer a dazzling display of European, Asian, Mediterranean and native fare. Sip fine wines at sunset or head to the beach grill for a juicy burger. Each all inclusive resort in Riviera Maya has its own array of venues to suit the occasion. Check out the resort descriptions for unique dining options and other interesting highlights!

Nightlife

When the Caribbean sun sets the jubilee begins with live music, premium drinks and friendly faces in the Mayan Riviera. Fascinating displays of the local talent and thumping disco tunes keep the energy flowing, and open bars serve a variety of imported and domestic drinks throughout the night. The resorts of the Riviera Maya offer a nightlife adventure for every evening agenda. Check out the resort descriptions for a detailed list of the nightlife and other exciting highlights of your resort!

Sightseeing

The sights of the Riviera Maya are justly centered on the breathtaking beaches that make this coastline famous. Clear, turquoise waters lap gently against the shore and sugar-soft sands welcome the footsteps of world travelers. Journey further in-land to discover a wild landscape of equal beauty. Tropical jungles host a variety of eco-tours and safaris that can be arranged from the resort’s tour desk. Take an expedition through blossoming flora to the ruins of the Mayan civilization. Mysterious edifices and ancient courtyards are just some of the historic wonders you can expect to see in the Maya Riviera.

Sports

Riviera Maya’s warm waters and rolling terrain make it a haven for recreations over land and sea. Beachfront Riviera Maya, Mexico resorts offer an array of water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing and snorkeling. Scuba divers flock from around the globe to explore the second longest reef system in the world. Dive centers that offer PADI certification are sprinkled throughout the coast, allowing divers of every level to enjoy this bustling marine habitat. Those in search of drier endeavors will enjoy tennis, beach volleyball and championship golf in, or around the resort areas. All fortes are satisfied by the endless activities in the Maya Riviera.
